SAN DIEGO

HEATHERWOOD TERRACE

This modern townhouse transformation re-envisions the existing space by creating an open space floor plan broken into intimate zones via a double height, dual-sided fireplace. The fireplace serves to create a “screen” between the Dining Room and the Living Room, thereby establishing privacy in both spaces, while permitting a visual connection between the two. On the Living Room side, this feature, which is clad in natural stone, accentuates the height of the room, while the horizontal hearth provides both contrast and a natural intimacy in the Dining Room. The open connection between the Dining Room and Kitchen creates a comfortable flow between the spaces.

The project palette overlays natural stone with modern wood cabinets, thereby producing a relaxed, yet modern ambiance. In the Powder Room, the veining of the natural stone and the warm brass tones establish a timeless feel, particularly when juxtaposed by the herringbone accent wall.
